    Course Description

    Work Health & Safety (WHS) is about ensuring safe and healthy working conditions, and pre-venting illness and injury in the workplace. This qualification reflects the roles of individuals who coordinate and maintain the WHS program within an organisation.

    Upon completion of the Diploma of Work Health and Safety, students will possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and be able to use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work and the work of others with safety responsibilities.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    Participants must have completed all core units of Cert IV in WHS or equivalent competencies.
    Core units are:
    BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws
    BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes
    BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk assessment
    BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems
    BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response

    Participants will require average literacy and computer skills for this course.

    Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation's WHS management system

    Manage WHS consultation and participation processes

    Manage WHS hazards associated with maintenance and use of plant

    Assist with managing WHS implications of return to work

    Contribute to implementing WHS monitoring processes

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    Written assessment activities for each unit are conducted plus two major assignments covering multiple units.

    DURATION

    Expected committed time to the course will occur over one to three years depending on individual situations. This includes; the option of attending class based workshops, independent work through workplace research and data collection, textbook study plus assessment and assignment completion.
