OHS Training Course

Course description

Under the OHS Act (section 67) all elected HSRs and deputy HSRs after completing an initial course of training, have an entitlement (for each year they hold office) to attend Refresher training and choose the course in consultation with their employer.

Mentor HR’s Health and Safety Representative Refresher OHS Training Course is approved by WorkSafe Victoria. It provides an opportunity for HSRs to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh their knowledge of OHS legislation, workplace hazards and employee consultation. Managers and supervisors can also benefit from attending this course.

Learning Outcomes
The learning objectives of the course are;

• Interpreting the occupational health and safety legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR
• Identifying key parties and their legislative obligations and duties
• Establishing representation in the workplace
• Participating in consultation and issue resolution
• Represent designated work group members in any OHS risk management process undertaken by the appropriate duty holder/s
• Issuing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) and directing the cessation of work

Assessment Methods

No assessment, attendance is required.


Each course runs from 8.00am to 4.00pm. Mentor will endeavour to meet any special needs of their participants; this includes catering, seating and learning requirements. Please advise upon enrolment, prior to class commencement.

Mentor HR’s training is delivered by qualified and experienced trainers who utilise a range of learning approaches to accommodate different adult learning styles. The course is made interesting through discussing case studies and examining real life workplace experiences.
